American Airlines was formed from the consolidation of numerous companies way back in 1929. With the formation of The Aviation Corporation, the process of consolidating young aviation companies, like Robertson Aviation Corporation, was initiated. In the year 1930, The Aviation Corporation combined all their airline subsidiaries into a single force called American Airways, Inc. Later in 1934, American Airways was rechristened American Airlines, Inc.

However, this little lesson in history cannot be complete without the mention of Charles Lindberg. April 15th, 1926, has found a place in the history of American Travel Industry and therefore can never be forgotten. A young aviator by the name of Charles A. Lindbergh took off from Chicago for St. Louis city on his DH-4 biplane with a mail bag as luggage. At this time, Charles was the chief pilot in the Robertson Aircraft Corporation, based in Missouri. Robertson Aircraft Corporation was the second aviation company to have been awarded the U.S. airmail contract.

Frontier Airlines was officially launched on July 5, 1994. Frontier Airlines has been the hometown carrier of Denver for 40 years and then it was purchased in 1986. Frontier airline has been carrying 87 million passengers since its existence and is known for providing high quality service. The airline also has an outstanding safety record.

It all started in 1993 when executives of the original Frontier Airlines, came together with some newcomers to give Frontier a new look and a fresh start. So finally, in 1994, Frontier Airlines was launched with 2 Boeing 737-200 and 180 employees. Initially when the new look Frontier Airline was launched in 1994, a USP had to be developed to make it stand out in a crowd. So what’s different about Frontier airlines? Frontier Airlines did something so spectacular that people actually lined up to see the aircrafts. All Frontier Airline aircrafts were given a wildlife theme, which is so synonymous with the Airlines today. The theme came to life with help from some of the experts of advertising. These were known as the spokesanimals and each animal had a unique personality.

Today there are more than 50 spokesanimals whose pictures are displayed on Frontier Aircraft tails. The images of every animal were printed on an adhesive-backed vinyl. Each image has been tiled in 20- 34-inch-by-96-inch panel, and given around two inches of overlap. The images started from the rear base of the tail, and moved towards the front or leading edge of the tail. But that’s not all, as the tails were covered with two coats of clear coat to seal the image and prevent corrosion. Whenever a panel gets damaged, it has to be completely replaced. The panels have been printed in Denver but applied in Hamburg, Germany.

Frontier Airlines currently has a fleet of 55 aircrafts out of which 48 are Airbus A319 aircrafts with seating capacity of 132 people. Rests of the seven aircrafts are Airbus A318 with a capacity of 114 people. The average age of each aircraft in the Frontier Airlines fleet is 2 years. They have also received the FAA Diamond award for maintenance for seven straight years from 1999 to 2006. The award is the highest honor for aircraft maintenance professionals.
